Making Home the Norm

It's been said "what you are at home...is what you are."   Those are true words, home is where we can lay back and be ourselves. That encompasses a wide variety, some good, some not so good and every now and again, some downright ugly!

But as women, wives and mothers, we have the unique responsibility and power to influence our home.  What our family sees day in and day out is what they consider normal.  Our words, attitudes, actions, routines are not only being watched, but are being imitated and ingrained in hearts and will be passed along one day as new families spring forth from us.
What if we would rise to the challenge to be deliberate in our 'normal'?  In many areas, the values of a Christian are in direct conflict of the ways of the world. A few comparisons include:
  • Speech
  • Clothing
  • Values
  • Music
  • Entertainment
If we strive to display Christ likeness in our home, our children take that to heart.  In the above areas, by us making deliberate choices to reflect holiness and godliness, a difference will be noted from our home and the ways of the world. As we make our homes a place to rejoice in God's blessings in the good times, our children learn to praise God from whom all blessings flow.  Faith is seen and learned in the midst of struggles and hard times as the watch where  we go for our help.

The pull of the world and the temptations of sin are very real dangers to our kids. Ultimately, they will make their own choices and decisions and they may not always be what we would have chosen for them.  But the influence of 'normal' will always stay with them.

Let's strive to make our home a holy normal!

  3. I like what you said about the fact that we can pass on things to future generations, because it is true.

Many times we learn habits or tips, etc., from our parents and they learned from THEIR parents.

I like the "holy normal" because I don't want to be the world's normal! Thanks for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday!

  4. What a simple, yet profound, truth...that is so easily overlooked. I really like that idea of normal being a holy normal - a Christ-centered home truly should just seem "so normal" to our families!

Hope you are having a great week!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him.  Obeying God doesn’t have to be unattainable or impossible, but can be a joyful, beautiful journey as we go by step and follow Him.
