Serve Them Apples of Gold

A verse in Proverbs says "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver." Simply meaning a right word spoken at the right time is a thing of beauty.

Each one of us has our own "quirks", or certain things we do a certain way - and it probably makes no sense to anyone but us. One of my quirks is making sure the mornings in our home go smoothly. We have a 20 minute ride to school and in years past I have spent at least half of that time nagging and complaining about everything under the sun. I finally realized how valuable and precious that time is. Those few moments can set the tone for the day for each of us. They can ruin a day or bless the day. I decided I want to bless and be blessed!

I came across some prayers from Moms In Touch and wrote them out in a small notebook. Each morning we read the characteristic, the definition of it and the Bible verse that goes along with it. Hearing good, wholesome words in the morning can only lead to a good day. Here are a few of the things to pray for with our children:

A spirit of Reverence: The fear of the Lord - Proverbs 9:10
A spirit of Humility: A willingness to submit - Ephesians 4:2
A spirit of Purity: A desire to be clean and pure inside and out - Matthew 5:8
A spirit of Purpose: The wisdom to set goals - Proverbs 4:25-27
A spirit of Simplicity: A life-style uncluttered - I Corinthians 14:40

There is 31 prayers - one for each day of the month and I hope to share more each week. Hope this will bless your families.

  1. You are right--we do set the tone. The kids and I have had fun singing easy scripture songs on the way to school in the mornings. Our children are a blessing from God--and do deserve our best.

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him.  Obeying God doesn’t have to be unattainable or impossible, but can be a joyful, beautiful journey as we go by step and follow Him.
