Happy New Year

I love New Year's Day!! I'm all about fresh starts, new chances, change etc!!! In the past and today will be no different, this day is spent taking down the Christmas tree, transferring birthdays and important dates to the new calendar and time spent reflecting on things I would like to change this year.

To start the New Year off on an encouraging note, I wanted to write about the faithfulness of God. As women, we are designed to be caretakers, nurturers, helpers. As a woman of God, we are called to care for our families and keep our homes, creating a haven of rest for our families. This is no easy task. It requires dedication, selflessness, humility and organization. But the biggest thing it requires is an attitude in the heart - a love for our family and home which begins inside of us and projects in actions from us into the lives of others. Let me also be real here and say that this attitude of love, care, compassion does not come easy!!! It is a struggle against our own desires and wants, it is a real battle to put the needs of others above our own. An intense battle! But with the help of the Lord, it can be won.

Through the years the Lord has put into my heart a love and understanding of the importance of my role as wife and mother. I now understand that my attitudes and actions affect my husband and children and they will carry the actions/attitudes displayed in the home with them forever. With that understanding came the realization that I don't have what it takes to carry out the tasks of instilling love, peace, joy and godly attributes into them. But God is so faithful and area by area, flaw by flaw, sometimes by decision, word, action or attitude, He can transform a heart.

I have by no means "arrived" to any point, but with the realization that I can not do it, but God can, wisdom and change began. My husband and children are "my career" even though I work outside the home. Priorities must be placed to maintain order or I can be scattered all over the place. My sample list is: God, husband, children, home, church, others and after that, if there is anything left over(!), that can be dealt with, but those needs and areas are first.

Hope that I didn't ramble too much, but I just wanted to share the glory of being a woman with you and encourage you to be all that God has called you to be. And don't worry, ask Him and He will do whatever work in your heart that needs to be done. I am living proof, "Is there anything too hard for God", NO!

Blessings to you and yours this New Year!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We...

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him....
