A Happy and Giving Mother

The two mother virtues for today are:

A Heart That Is Happy:
If our husband and children can count on us to be happy, it will make an incredible difference in our home atmosphere. Think of how it feels to walk into an unknown situation, how intimidating that is. Our families should not walk into a guessing game of our mood. We should try to be predictably happy. In Psalms 113:9 it reads "He maketh the barren woman to keep house and to be a JOYFUL mother of children." Now of course it is not always easy to create happiness, but if we pray and practice a happy greeting each time you see a loved one, it will go a long way towards creating a happy atmosphere in your home. As mothers we are the number one influence in our children's lives. Happiness is contagious!

A Heart That Gives:
As Christians we are encouraged to be givers. Even Jesus came to serve - not to be served. Here are a few principles to help us to serve with affection, warmth and energy.
Give because it is our role. We are to give the smile, cheerful greeting, hug, compliment, encouragement, praise, meal, time, ride etc., etc., etc. For a family to run efficiently - someone has to embrace the role of caretaker, nurturer etc. What a privilege and honor for us to fulfill that role in our home.
Give generously. Remember the principle of sowing and reaping. What we pour into our children on a daily basis - seeds of patience, faith, kindness is what we can gain in the years to come.
Give expecting nothing in return. Again we remember God's command to "love our children". Mothers serve their children simply because God's Word says to. Not for ulterior or selfish motives.

  1. I agree that mother's really do set the tone of the home. Thanks for the great reminder!

  2. I am enjoying your Mothering posts. A heart seeking God is a happy heart and one that gives unconditionally. Thank you for reminding us to strive to do our best in Christ as mothers.
