Stretching...

This will be my second time participating in At the Well which is hosted today over at Cindy Bealls. The topic today is: Marriage - Building Up Your Spouse and the discussion question is :How well do you sweet-talk your spouse?
Before I share my contribution, I want to share a few things. As a Christian woman, it is pretty easy to fall into a rut, doing things the same way, being so busy that we concentrate on only the necessities - keeping food on the table, keeping the family clothed, cleaning the house when time permits(!), etc. Recently I was reading "A Woman After God's Own Heart" by Elizabeth George and one chapter was an encouragement to continue to grow always in the Christian walk. OK, I thought, sounds good, Lord, I want to grow in You and be a blessing in the lives of all those I am around, I prayed.
Well, in my last post you can read about some changes our family is starting this week - today in fact! New schools, new job positions and teenagers which are always changing!!!
But the biggest changes and stretching I have come across lately has been the posts with At the Well. I accidentally stumbled upon At the Well last week and the discussion was "How Do You Welcome Daddy Home?" I evaluated our home procedures and found they were lacking a proper welcome. This is indeed an area I can grow in! Then this week, since it was so fun and encouraging to read others posts and ideas last week, I did more research and found the topic for today which is - Building Up Your Spouse - How Well Do You Sweet Talk Your Husband".
So... this is also an area I feel a stretch coming on. Through reading many books for Christian wives, respect is vital to a husband. In God's Word, as Christian wives we are to "love our husbands, to reverence and honor them" Titus 2:3-5. There is great power in our words. Proverbs is full of how important our words are and how they can bless and encourage others. In Ephesians 4:29 our speech should "minister grace to the hearers". I completely understand how important it is to love, respect honor and build up my husband. But...there is that little glitch between knowing and showing! During the day to day activities of life where there is always something or someone needing my attention, I tend to talk to dear husband - like everyone else, which is not bad, but he needs a "little extra". He certainly is worthy as he is my highest human priority - my first priority that is under God. There is surely much to be thankful for. He is a hard worker, diligent, faithful, caring, protective. He is a great provider, great father, great priest of our home - looking out for and watching for the advancement of our spiritual lives - guarding what comes into our homes and lives. He truly is wonderful!
Now for the plan - certainly sweet talk him some more! But since he has so many fantastic qualities, I will start there and look for instances when those qualities come out and point them out and show my appreciation for them. This is an area where I can grow and grow, there is no limit to showing love and respect. My plan is to make it a habit to be the encourager and his number one admirer.
My prayer this week will be - "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer." Psalms 19:14

  7. Thank you for sharing from your heart today AT THE WELL. And I am glad that you came back to join us again this week. You are right when you point out the fact that the "saying is different than the doing". Sometimes we get so busy with the kids that we neglect our dear hubbys, and I don't ever want to take mine for granted. Thanks for sharing today. -Blessings, Laurie

  8. AMEN sista! I pray Psalm 139:23-24 and 19:14 A LOT!!!

Bless you dear sister and I pray that you will be greatly encouraged as I've been "At the Well".

Living as a Biblical woman in today's world is truly challenging. And I'll tell 'ya, having sisters to walk this narrow road with you sure makes it more pleasant!

    Bless you and welcome!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We

Relationships and Redemption

In every friendship or relationship, there is a common hope that they will grow and flourish. There is something inside of us that longs for a 'happy every after' story. We dream about it and work to make that happen. But in reality, relationships are a challenge. The bridging of values, lifestyles, interests and sacrificing for another are simply hard things to do! No matter how much we dream of the perfect fit, some relationships will not endure the stress.  When differences appear and tensions arise, prayer can change situations, attitudes and ourselves. For the Christian, we know God can transform, change, heal. We cannot change others, but prayer opens us the door for God to step in and answer. God desires transformation, but does not demand it. The gift of free will allows us to choose to say Yes or No to Him.  Romans 12:18 says, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” Take notice of the first two words: “If possible …” This implies that some

A Blank Page - A Great Way to Fill It

A blank page - that is the first view of a new blog post. It has been a while since I have faced the blank page of my little blog! A blank page can bring a variety of emotions - emptiness, anxiety, pressure to perform or emotions such as inspiration, encouragement or simply bursting to share something. But there is always something fresh and exciting about the blank page of a New Year. Happy 2023! This is always a time in my life where inspiration and plans are formed and ready to be implemented for greater change. Aspirations may start strong, but alone do not make a difference. It takes consistency to create change. The changing or adding small habits is a key to great changes. A habit that has been beneficial in my life for many years is rising early. It began when the children were small and was the only pocket of time I had to myself. Through the years, mornings have become my favorite time of the day. Now that my husband and I are empty nesters, we go to bed early and rise early.
