Word Filled Wednesday

Today is Word Filled Wednesday where we can fill our hearts with the Word of God in verse and picture. What a great mid week pick me up!

My heart has been stirred this week thinking about "Holiness". What a big word with a meaning that is sometimes hard to grasp. We serve a holy God, who has called us to be holy. Holiness scares me because there is nothing holy in me by myself. Holiness penetrates to the depth of our heart and influences every thought, word and action we take. When I think of the sacredness of holiness, it makes me shutter.

But as I read what God's Word says about holiness, it becomes clear that in ourselves, there is nothing holy, but God has created us anew and is guiding us in the path of holiness. Here are a few verses that share about the holiness we can partake in:

Ephesians 4:24
and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

1 Thessalonians 3:13
so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

1 Thessalonians 4:7
For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.

Hebrews 12:14
Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

Holiness is God's will for us. Holiness is God's standard. Holiness is pursued by keeping our minds and bodies pure, by watching what enters our hearts through our eyes, ears and mouth (words). Holiness can be tough and may deem telling ourselves no to seemingly good pleasures which are really not good for us. But we can pursue holiness and God's grace is sufficient to lead us in the right paths. Striving for holiness is a journey, moment by moment, thought by thought, word by word and action by action. God has gifted us with His Holy Spirit who lives in each Christian. The work of the Holy Spirit stirs us toward holiness, leads and guides us. May we be adorned with the beauty of holiness today in all that we do.

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We...

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him....
