At the Well - The Modern Day Titus 2 Woman

Gathering At the Well

Today At the Well, the discussion is about the Titus 2 Woman - with a spin!

With the world of Technology growing by leaps and bounds, a majority of our
communication takes place via email, blogging, twittering, facebooking etc...
How can we make sure that we are living out Titus 2 in the cyber world so that
the Word of God is not disgraced? How do we keep a balance between grace and
hard truth?

Women love to feel connected with one another. By nature, we love to share, compare, model after and just have fun with our friends. Women are a very important part of each other's lives. A Christian woman has some special instructions in God's Word on how to relate to other women:

"the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not
slanderers, not given to much wine.teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed." Titus 2:3-5

The passage begins with instruction for behavior or how a woman goes about her own life and then moves on to things that the ladies are to share with younger women: things like loving their husbands, children and to carry themselves with grace, keep their homes and fall into God's design for the family.

Relationships are just not what they used to be in our modern times. Rarely does a leisurely home visit take place. Communication is done "on the go", on the steps of the church after service, with a quick phone call or while picking up the children from an activity. Times of teaching are sparse, women often cannot afford to take time from their precious time at home to attend a class or Bible Study. When and where can these Titus 2 relationships be formed?

Blogging has been a great source of encouragement in my life. I have received godly instruction for my life, guidance on marriage, parenting and been inspired with creative ideas to keep my home, prepare new recipes for my family and have enjoyed fantastic fellowship. It is my hope and prayer that what I have richly received, has been shared through my blog and others have been blessed through it.

I will admit, I love the connection and socialization of Twitter and Facebook. It is a wonderful tool to connect with old and new friends. It provides opportunities to share in a short format a word of encouragement, a word of comfort, a quick "hello", etc. It also opens up our lives for others to get a glimpse of how we "love our husbands, our children, keep our home" in our daily walk. A good rule of thumb is to let your presence, voice or comment be filled with God's love, grace and witness.

In any area where there is seemingly limitless opportunities to connect, a line of integrity must be drawn. Know before you are online, what you will not discuss or share. (Never share anything negative about your family, especially your husband.) Be aware of old friends who may not walk the Christian walk that may influence you with their ways. Be on guard for new friends that you have not learned about their values or morals. Guard what you say at all times. Ask the Lord to "set a watch over the mouth" so that our conversation will always be pure and reflect Christ. In quick replies or a status, it may be easy to be transparent. May we be on guard for criticism, sarcasm or unkind attitudes which can easily slip out. Our inward attitudes will be reflected in out outward words, attitudes and actions.

We live in an exciting time where opportunities although different than ever before, truly abound where we can share and connect with others. May we be constantly filled with God's wisdom, grace and love, being obedient to His Word and be the Titus 2 woman everywhere we go and everywhere we are!

Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. II Corinthians 2:14,15

  1. Isn't it a shame that there are so little "home visits" among girl friends...its almost like you need an appointment. I remember my mom and her best friend (our neighbor) bringing their ironing to one another's house and spending the afternoon together while getting their chores done:) Relationships definitely have their challenges but what a blessing our friends are...

And, I agree - I have been blessed even in blogging!!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We

Relationships and Redemption

In every friendship or relationship, there is a common hope that they will grow and flourish. There is something inside of us that longs for a 'happy every after' story. We dream about it and work to make that happen. But in reality, relationships are a challenge. The bridging of values, lifestyles, interests and sacrificing for another are simply hard things to do! No matter how much we dream of the perfect fit, some relationships will not endure the stress.  When differences appear and tensions arise, prayer can change situations, attitudes and ourselves. For the Christian, we know God can transform, change, heal. We cannot change others, but prayer opens us the door for God to step in and answer. God desires transformation, but does not demand it. The gift of free will allows us to choose to say Yes or No to Him.  Romans 12:18 says, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” Take notice of the first two words: “If possible …” This implies that some

A Blank Page - A Great Way to Fill It

A blank page - that is the first view of a new blog post. It has been a while since I have faced the blank page of my little blog! A blank page can bring a variety of emotions - emptiness, anxiety, pressure to perform or emotions such as inspiration, encouragement or simply bursting to share something. But there is always something fresh and exciting about the blank page of a New Year. Happy 2023! This is always a time in my life where inspiration and plans are formed and ready to be implemented for greater change. Aspirations may start strong, but alone do not make a difference. It takes consistency to create change. The changing or adding small habits is a key to great changes. A habit that has been beneficial in my life for many years is rising early. It began when the children were small and was the only pocket of time I had to myself. Through the years, mornings have become my favorite time of the day. Now that my husband and I are empty nesters, we go to bed early and rise early.
