Today Sharon over at Good, True and Beautiful is kicking off a new blog feature called "Just For the Joy Of It". Sure sounds like a lot of fun doesn't it? It's purpose is consistent with focusing on lifes simple things, Sharon is inviting folks to link up a post on something that gives you Joy (Happiness, Gratitude, Laughter, Contentment, Excitement) you know, the good stuff). Just For the Joy Of It will highlight the simple pleasures of life, and remind us all to slow down and smell the roses.
Although I am a morning person, evenings are also very special to me. In the mornings, I am getting charged up, filled with plans for the day, my energy level is high and it is Go, Go, Go to embrace the new day.
In the evenings, all the tasks have been completed (that are going to get completed!) and there is nothing left to do except relax and unwind. Being outside in the evenings brings me great joy! I am an avid walker and take a walk most every night. This is a time to unwind, visit with those who come along, or if I am alone, empty my mind and enjoy the nature around me.
Evenings hold a magic all their own. The crickets chirp, the air cools and if we are outside, we are usually relaxed. Evening memories that are dear to me are sitting on the porch swing watching the boys play ball. Extra fun comes when daddy and I join in! Sitting on the porch just being still and enjoying a beautiful sunset is a perfect way to end the day.
I wish all my evenings were like this, but as any mother knows there is always something to do and somewhere that we could be. By making the deliberate choice to savor as many evenings at home, it makes for some wonderful family time and sets the tone for shutting the world out and bringing a restful and peaceful atmosphere to the home after a busy day. Enjoying evenings at home brings me much joy!

What a great idea. I'm going to have to do some thinking about this one.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree - evenings together as a family spent playing in the backyard, on a walk or playing a game are the BEST!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, especially as the days grow shorter (and colder!). It's special to keep things mellow and enjoy a quiet night. Hot tea, a movie, a sleepy baby... BLISS!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy our evenings at home as well. Sometimes they are all that keeps me going through a busy day!
ReplyDeleteI like this! My evenings are far too hectic moments of trying to get just one more thing done - I miss past evenings of relaxing and reading or sitting with my hubby while I unwind. I might have to try stopping the day a little earlier!
ReplyDeleteEvenings at home are the best! It is so easy to get caught up in all the busy stuff and it is so nice to purposefully slow down and find joy in the evening.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite times have been after the hurricane has knocked out the power & all we have is each other, some candlelight & boardgames. Nothing else gets in the way because it's as if everything else in life has been removed.
