Today At the Well - the topic is " Holy is His Name". This topic offers the opportunity to look within our hearts and ask ourselves "are we a reflection of the Holy God that we serve?"
This is the perfect time of the year to do a deep soul searching and cleansing. God sent His only begotten Son into this world to redeem, sanctify and cleanse us. Each of us are born with a sinful nature. God is a holy God and while He longs for a relationship with us, there is no way we can become holy on our own with our sinful nature. God sent His Son to earth to redeem us from the curse of sin and give us a new heart, cleansed and forgiven. He makes all things new and calls us to holiness. We are commanded to "be holy in our conduct for He has called us to be holy as He is holy." I Peter 1:15.
Holiness is not something we wear like a garment, but it may consist of putting some things off and on: "If indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. " Ephesians 4:22-24 What a beautiful truth that God created us in true righteousness and holiness and will equip us to live holy lives.
What does a holy life look like? How can we be holy in our day to day walk? Sometimes is takes us deep look inside and inviting the Lord to search us: "Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalms 139:23
Here are the discussion questions from today's At the Well:
- What do you need to cleanse yourself of today?
- Is there anything in your life that is defiling your body and mind?
- Are all of your relationships pure?
- What about the music you are listening to or the books you are reading?
- Are the television shows you are watching, honoring to God?
Holiness permeates in our hearts and minds, so it is so important to watch what we put into them. By pondering our paths and making deliberate choices in what we watch, listen to and who we allow ourselves to be influenced by, we are less likely to stumble into bad choices. There are enticements and abundant opportunities that can defile our mind and body so it pays to be on guard and be diligent with what we allow to enter our hearts. May we be filled with the holiness of the Lord and always be reflections of His glory.
Romans 12:1,2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
I enjoyed your addition to the Well today; yes, being deliberate is so important! I know I am striving to live intentionally.
