Word Filled Wednesday

"Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

At a recent workshop at his job, my husband came home sharing the differences in people as it relates to how they handle and complete tasks. The leader told the group there were two categories: the "Get It Done" group and the "Do It Right" group. Most people are one or the other, but usually not both.

One of the unique challenges in our marriage is that he is a "Do It Right", type while I am a "Get It Done" person. It took a while to appreciate the differences in our work styles. He does not complete as many things as I do, but what he does is done to perfection. I do many jobs and often times find shortcuts or the easier way to finish which in the end may lack perfection. Our found balance consists of recognizing our different approaches and an appreciation of one another for the way we complete tasks. Oh, and I am learning to try to do a more thorough job in my tasks!

I Corinthians 10:31 tells us that in everything we do, we should do it all for the glory of God. Although each one is created differently and does not have the same abilities, gifts or talents, we can cultivate a heart of thanksgiving for what God has enabled us to do and do it to the best of our ability. Even the mundane tasks from day to day can be done to the glory of God if we give our best from the heart.

  8. Amen! I have played that verse over and over in my mind on many a day. I used to get frustrated (well sometimes still do) when my day was spent cleaning...cleaning...caring for others etc. with no reward or even a word of thanks. BUT when I found this verse and started doing things for God's glory it changed everything. I needed this reminder today...thank you for sharing it with us!

  9. Everything that we do is useless if we do not do it for the glory of God. But admittedly, often times, I just do the job, forgetting that it should be offer to the King of Kings. And we are on the same boat, I think I am also a Get it Done and my dear husband is the Do It Right type :D Hmm... don't you think this is God's design to make a wife and a husband compliment each other? Just a thought :D

Blessings to you and to your family!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We...

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him....
