The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16
The challenge for today's Completing Him, is to pray for our husbands daily. This is an area that the Lord patiently grew me into. As a young married woman, I would say the basic "God bless him today" prayer for him each day. Through the years of reading devotional books and magazines etc., the importance of a wife's prayers kept popping up and I knew this was an area that needed improvement. But...where to start? What do we pray for every day for our men? One of the best resources I have found is The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie O'Martian. This book covers every topic of life, his mind, soul and body, his work, temptations, vision, leadership etc. with a specific chapter and prayer. This book greatly enhanced my awareness of the power of my prayers for my husband.
Once I began praying for him diligently, he went through a job change. This new job was a challenge that threatened to overwhelm him. Knowing that he needed my prayers more than ever, I sought the Lord on how to pray specifically for my husband. I began thinking of what it was that he needed and seeking God's Word to pray over him. There is nothing greater than God's Word and the limitless power it has along with praying fervently and effectively. God has been so gracious and merciful as a result of seeking Him during these trying times. May we never under estimate the power of a praying wife. Here are a few of the prayers with verses that gave my husband strength, grace and help in time of need.
Renewed Strength: "But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
Peace: "...and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus". Philippians 4:7
Grace: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” II Corinthians 12:9
Integrity: "The integrity of the upright will guide them." Proverbs 11:3
We may be aware of certain things in his life that may attempt to bog him down at times. Things like stress, anxiety, fear, insecurity. I love this verse found in II Corinthians 10:4: "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds," and draw upon God's mighty power to pull down anything that may be a stronghold.
Praying for the husband not only blesses him, but will bring a beautiful bonding of hearts as we allow the love of the Lord to flow through us to him. I like to ask for the Lord to love my husband through me. His love is greater and richer and enables me and encourages me on the path to being a godly wife who is a blessing to my man.
I have loved reading Courtney's blog and have already been growing in my marriage through this challenge!
