Friday With Friends

Jennifer is hosting Friday with Friends where we gather aroundt o share memories and get to know each other a little better.  Today we are sharing about vacations.  Which do you prefer – the beach or the mountains?
As a young girl, my family lived within minutes from the beach.  I was a beach girl all the way!  My earliest memories were playing in the sand, riding the waves and enjoying the sun and fun.  When we moved further away from the beach, the highlight of the summer was still a trip to the beach.

My husband’s earliest memories were traveling to the mountains for vacations.  He enjoyed camping, swimming in creeks, visiting the Cherokee reservation (for tourists!), campfires and the great outdoors.
When we married, we did the beach vacations for several years.  I had never been to the mountains.  One year we had a long weekend and planned to go to North Georgia.  There were “hills” there, but no mountain peaks.  The closer we got, the more excited my husband got.  He said since we were within a few hours of the mountains, we would go ahead to to visit them.  We had no reservations or plans and ended up staying in an older, small motel, but it was one of the best trips we had ever taken!  The beauty, the majesty, the fresh mountain air brought my heart to life!  We walked, we drove and just gazed upon the beauty of God’s creation.  I was hooked!

Since then, we’ve taken some time each year to visit the mountains.  We stay in a rustic cabin, usually with family and enjoy some wholesome, quality time together and enjoy being outdoors.
We still visit the beach some, but I’m going to have to lean towards being a mountain girl!

What a blessing to be able to enjoy a little bit of both worlds!  Tell me about you, are you a beach or mountain person?

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him.  Obeying God doesn’t have to be unattainable or impossible, but can be a joyful, beautiful journey as we go by step and follow Him.
