Word Filled Wednesday – Getting Your Exercise

WFWlogo
But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.  I Timothy 4:7,8

As a regular exerciser, I can say that I love the effects of exercise.  The actual work of exercise maybe not so much, but the effects are certainly worth the effort.  I love how it makes me feel and how it makes me look.
Exercise is good for you and when you know you are doing right for your body, it’s a good thing!  Stretching and building muscles help the body with endurance, aerobic exercise such as walking, biking or swimming keep the heart pumping and strong.  Exercise also keeps extra pounds off and tones the muscles.
But exercise must be done a few times a week to be effective.  There are days I don’t really want to work out, or it’s incredibly hot outside etc.  But by making myself go and do it, it becomes easier and I end up glad that I did it.
Exercising ourselves toward godliness reaps an even greater reward.  God’s Word tells us it is profitable in all things.  We exercise our spiritual muscles by spending time in prayer and reading God’s Word.  It builds our character, fills us with life-changing power to endure the trials and struggles of life and gives us an inner beauty that radiates out.  It may not be easy, and we may have to make the choice to forgo other activities to put time with God first.  But if we are faithful, we will find He is faithful to meet us and abundantly bless us.  Exercising ourselves toward godliness is definitely worth it!!

  1. Oh yes! This was fantastic! It is work...it requires discipline and like exercise (which I too love the results of and not so much "in the moment") it takes work to see results!

I want to print this out and put it front and center on the fridge for "my people" to see!

    loved this!
    awesomeness! lori

  2. I love this!

I need to exercise badly... As the Word says, first in the natural then in the spiritual. By this I mean, if I have trouble discipling my physical body, then it will flow into spiritual slackness also.

    Blessings to you this WFW!

  4. oh I wish I could say I enjoy the physical exercise part of the equation. I have always preferred hard work like gardening that accomplishes something...
I kinda hang onto the bit that says it only profits a little.
But.......I will get back to the gym when the Doc gives the ok.
    Go girl go.

  6. I am so with you - on both the knowing I need to do it and the actual doing it! LOL

Two things that have helped me a bit. One is that when I am on a phone call, I pop on a hat and go out and walk around the block while I chat. I got in 7 blocks with a daughter last night, and we have big blocks. :) I'm having fun talking and don't notice the actual exercise. :)

The second is thanks to a pedal exerciser my senior mom and I recently added to our boomer and senior fitness equipment. Now I sit down at this little mini exercise bike (it's just the pedals :) ) and pedal away on that while I work on my Bible study. So then I get to stay fit spiritually AND physically! Hooray :) In fact, I'm off to do that in just a minute.

    Have a blessed Word-Filled Wednesday!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We...

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him....
