And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. I Corinthians 13:13
Every now and then it does me good to read “the love chapter” – I Corinthians 13. It reminds me what love looks like:
- Patient
- Kind
- Humble
- Thoughtful
- Selfless
It helps me check my attitude and gives me guidelines to follow to make sure my actions are loving. But I am always struck by the first line that talks about some great feats, but carries the reminder “if we have not love,” meaning, is what we do does not have it’s root in love, it is in vain.
A heart of love is the beginning place for the actions of love to flow out of us. This pure, beautiful love does not always come easy for me. Often times when my heart is lacking in love, I ask God to fill my heart with His love and extend it through me to others. When His love flows through us, these attributes of love also flow. When He puts love as the motive for our actions, it is easy to speak kindly, show consideration, patience and think of the needs of others. But…it is His love first and through the gifts He gives: faith, hope and love, love is the greatest of these.
oh amen! There seems to be a recurrent theme this week, surrounding the fruits of the Spirit etc. He is speaking to us! Yay! lol
ReplyDeleteHappy WFW!
The word says.....they will know us by our love.
ReplyDeleteSo sad that as Churches we often do not radiate that love that would have people pushing down doors to get in.
Teach us to Love Oh Lord of Love.

Joyce, what a wonderful post today. I am so glad I stopped in, what a great chapter on love that is. There are times I need to stop and reread that chapter for myself.
