Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29
I love the two fold reminder this verse gives about our words. As we all know, no corrupt, ungodly, unholy, ugly, mean or simply bad words should come out of our mouths. A little self control usually keeps this from happening.
But….our words should also impart – give through our words – GRACE. Our words should be such as those who we talk to, leave with God’s grace in their ears from our mouths. That’s a pretty big order! But God’s grace is limitless. We do not deserve it and we cannot earn it. When we simply acknowledge that we need His grace to enable us, to work through us and help us, He provides everything we need. Then, when our heart is full of His grace, it will overflow from our lives, attitudes and words and truly impart into the lives of others!
I once heard that, as Christians, we should give grace as freely as we receive it. Something for us all to strive for.....by His grace! :-)
ReplyDeleteHis Word is a 2-edged sword, as this scripture demonstrates beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThese are great reminders for us to meditate upon.
