Treasuring and Pondering

Wow!  Since writing my last blog post the flurry of Christmas activities has came and went.  What a great weekend of family, fellowship, food and celebrations.  The gifts are opened, the food devoured and all that remain are the memories of another Christmas past.  Sometimes it seems that it takes so long to prepare for Christmas and then 'poof', it is over.

This week still is considered "Christmas break" where the kids are out of school and our days can still be more relaxed.  What a wonderful opportunity to 'ponder'.  I love the verse in Luke 2 , "But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart."  My plan for this week is to treasure and ponder.  To treasure the smiles of Christmas, the special feeling of getting together with family, the beauty of singing Christmas carols with the church family, to keep alive in my heart thankfulness to God for His wonderful Gift. To ponder or remember what was extra special about this Christmas, what songs, words, food and cards brought joy.

As this is the last week of the year, it is also a good time to ponder things about the home.  The New Year is right around the corner. This is a chance to reflect on the home and our management of it.  What worked well to keep the home running smoothly, what didn't seem to work and may need to be left out.  What do we want our homes to say to our family and guests?  The home speaks what is alive in it.  What are some characteristics we need to cultivate and what are some that may need to be weeded out?  My home could use a good planting of peace, kindness, joy and love and less bickering, nagging, criticism and negativity.  By focusing on the characteristics I want to see developed, some action needs to take place. I need to first ask God to plant these fruit into my heart and graciously extend them to others.  This week I want to look over and plan to implement some household management, organization and better ways to keep the home for the new year.  Keeping a home singing, takes a lot of fine tuning!

Courtney is wrapping up the Peace On Earth Challenge for December and this week encourages us to get out of the house and enjoy the beautiful outdoors!  I have no problem doing this as I have found an daily walk energizes and rejuvenates me. Some time outside clears the mind and peps up the emotions!  Courtney encourages; "If you live in the north, you'll need to bundle up. If you have a safe neighborhood to walk in - go for a walk. If you do not, sit on your porch. The goal is to get out to the open sky and alone with God in nature. Take your Bible and get alone with God for 10 minutes. Read Matthew 27 and 28 about Jesus' death and resurrection. Reflect on the blessings of the past year and make a commitment in 2011 to live for Jesus."

May this week find  you treasuring and pondering God's blessings and purposefully looking into the New Year to draw closer to Him.

  1. Ohhh, I love this! I will definitely be doing some pondering of my own. This year will be marked with the arrival of a new little one (Praisin' the Lord!) and I know my home needs to be managed better. Thanks for the challenge! I always do better when I'm challenged.

I hope your family was so blessed this beautiful Christmas!

  2. So glad you had a wonderful Christmas. I appreciate your encouragement in some areas that God has already been convicting me about....simplifying and making better use of my time. Hope you enjoy your "off" time. I have this week off from work so I am looking forward to some time to relax and also getting some things done that I have been putting off!

  4. This was a great post and just what I like to do at this time of the year too. I did quite a bit of that today. Remembering back over the last several days and dwelling a bit on the good things that happened...Your right...all the work and "POOF" it's all over for another year. Glad you had a good one.

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We

Relationships and Redemption

In every friendship or relationship, there is a common hope that they will grow and flourish. There is something inside of us that longs for a 'happy every after' story. We dream about it and work to make that happen. But in reality, relationships are a challenge. The bridging of values, lifestyles, interests and sacrificing for another are simply hard things to do! No matter how much we dream of the perfect fit, some relationships will not endure the stress.  When differences appear and tensions arise, prayer can change situations, attitudes and ourselves. For the Christian, we know God can transform, change, heal. We cannot change others, but prayer opens us the door for God to step in and answer. God desires transformation, but does not demand it. The gift of free will allows us to choose to say Yes or No to Him.  Romans 12:18 says, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” Take notice of the first two words: “If possible …” This implies that some

A Blank Page - A Great Way to Fill It

A blank page - that is the first view of a new blog post. It has been a while since I have faced the blank page of my little blog! A blank page can bring a variety of emotions - emptiness, anxiety, pressure to perform or emotions such as inspiration, encouragement or simply bursting to share something. But there is always something fresh and exciting about the blank page of a New Year. Happy 2023! This is always a time in my life where inspiration and plans are formed and ready to be implemented for greater change. Aspirations may start strong, but alone do not make a difference. It takes consistency to create change. The changing or adding small habits is a key to great changes. A habit that has been beneficial in my life for many years is rising early. It began when the children were small and was the only pocket of time I had to myself. Through the years, mornings have become my favorite time of the day. Now that my husband and I are empty nesters, we go to bed early and rise early.
