He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
This is the perfect time of the year to re-read the biblical account of the first Christmas. God’s Word amazes me in the way that even though the passage may be familiar, the Holy Spirit can always show us something fresh and new if we read with an open heart.
In the above passage, the Angel is speaking to John the Baptist’s father about the birth of John. We know that John prepared the way for the ministry of Jesus. The words “to make ready a people prepared for the Lord” jumped out at me. Those words are surely something to ponder on in today’s times. Are we a people prepared for the Lord? Are our hearts eagerly seeking the Messiah, our Savior?
As we are in the midst of the Christmas season, may we be sensitive to hear the Lord and be people moved by grace and mercy. May our hearts be prepared to share the true meaning of Christmas - Christ came to save each of us!
Don't you love how you can read something so familiar in the Bible that you read several other times and something jumps out like this? Reminds me of how alive God's Word is constantly through the work of the Holy Spirit. I wouldn't have caught this "prepared for the Lord" I do want to be prepared indeed.

What a thrilling prospect - to be called a prepared people of the Lord. Yes, I am eagerly seeking the Lord, my Messiah, my Savior - learning how to make Him first in my life.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the preparation process isn't so much fun. There's some "other stuff" that has to be removed. But I am trusting God, and asking Him to speak to me, and make me always willing to listen and to obey.
Thanks for this today!
GOD BLESS!
Wonderful post. You have really made this verse stand out to me. It must have gotten lost before reading today.
ReplyDeleteWell, this is one of those times for me when the Holy Spirit showed me something new. I know I've read this verse time and time again, but it really stood out to me today. This is something I really needed today as I seek His direction in a certain matter. Your words, "may we constantly be ready to hear the voice of the Lord..." were a gentle reminder that I need to be still and listen.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Joan
That's one of the best things about being a Christian and reading the Bible...I will NEVER learn it all...every day something new stands out. Have a wonderfully blessed WFW!
ReplyDeleteI love when the familiar washes afresh over me!! I so desire to be 'a prepared people for the Lord.' May my heart always be turned toward Him and His Word so that I am prepared for all that He has for me to do.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!

I love your thoughts on this verse here. What a thrilling prospect indeed. I have been reading the birth of the Lord this week too and you are just soo right how something pops out that hasn't really before, but I have been dwelling on Mary and what in reality it must have been like to have an actual angle APPEAR to you and tell you such a thing. And her obedience and willingness to be involved... and how blessed she really was. Have a wonderful day. HUGS, Deb
ReplyDeleteLove it! Even though it's a story I've read over and over, I love when God POPS something out...thanks for popping it out today :)
