Going For 4G...

Have you heard or read some of the New Year resolutions last week?  I admire those who can sum up in a word their plan and purpose for the coming year.  "Simplicity", "Soar", "Connecting" etc. are some great ones.  Since I know myself too well to make resolutions, it is easier to identify some characteristics that I would like to see more of in my life.

To keep it simple, I"ve picked 4 G's.  Now, I'm definitely not a big techie, don't even have a smart phone and 4G is only a term heard on a commercial, but to keep things in a similar line...4 G works for me!

Beginning in my home and life I want to be more:

Gracious - "A gracious woman retains honor".  Grace comes from God alone, but it what enables His love to be manifested in outward actions, words and attitudes.  Being gracious is not something that is done at will or can be put on and off, but it is infused into the heart and is the reminder to do the right thing and extend grace in all circumstances.

Genuine - Have you ever known or sensed that something was not 'genuine'?  Words, offers to help, attitudes etc. may be said but if they are not paired with a genuine heart, may not be very useful.  Being genuine is being the same at all times, in all places.  It is offering to help and being happy when the opportunity comes.  It is being real, concerned, caring, from the heart.

Generous - Why is it so easy to be selfish? To think only of one's own needs and desires?  I want to strive to be more generous in my time and resources, thinking more of others and less of myself.

Greatness In Doing - "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,"  Colossians 3:23.  When a job is done 'as unto the Lord', it is done right!  From the smallest to the greatest of tasks, if it is done with all of our might, it is effective and well done.

These are my 4G's that are some things I would like to see more of in my life.  A new year is always an exciting time to reflect and offers a wonderful opportunity for change and improvement in our lives, homes and families.  May your New Year be filled with blessings and purpose!

  1. I think I need a 4G network in my new year, too. These are great...since I'm behind already in this new year, I might have to skip making my own resolutions and just use yours.

May the Lord bless the desires of your heart with much fruit, bringing Him the glory and honor due His Holy Name in this new year.

  2. I wish I had read this post before making my own resolutions. Not that I would change mine so much as simplify them. My partner often tells me that I over think things, and perhaps simplify should have been my sole resolution for the year I shall just have to think 'simplify' each time I focus on what it is I want to work on. Have a wonderful 2011

  3. Yes, I think we can all benefit from your 4 G's.Message yesterday at church was on stewardship...not just about money, but our time and talents. I have been in a dry spell for a while now and have missed being involved in ministry. Hoping this church change is going to open some opportunities. My heart is to be involved with people and to be an encouragement to them. I believe that is your heart, too. Thanks for sharing!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him.  Obeying God doesn’t have to be unattainable or impossible, but can be a joyful, beautiful journey as we go by step and follow Him.
