Word Filled Wednesday–Put On the New Man

But you have not so learned Christ,  if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:  that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,  and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,  and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.  Ephesians 4:20-24

God’s Word tells us about an ‘old man’ and a ‘new man’.  The old man is what Christians were before salvation.  They did not know God or desire the things of God.  The old man is bogged down and in bondage to sin with no way out.  When one accepts the fact that he is a sinner and believes that Christ died to take away that sin, a new man is born and the old man is crucified.

Now as Christians, we know that the ‘old man’ or our old sin nature will raise it’s ugly head at times!  But this verse tells us that we are not to let this old nature live through us or allow this old nature to control our lives.

Our new nature which is created in righteousness and holiness is consistent with the character of God.   As God had given us this new nature only through Him, each day, each moment, we should ‘put on’ and wear with thanksgiving our new man.  May we renew our hearts constantly with His Word and live and walk this new nature created for us in true righteousness and holiness.

  1. Love the verse. We are new creations when we accept Jesus and when we get to Heaven we will have a new body. I so look forward to that day. This body is worn and scarred physically but Oh, how I long for Jesus' return.
