Media Monday Wrap Up

This week marks the end of the Media Monday series.  It has been interesting thinking about and sharing with others how media affects our lives as Christian women.  We have explored several relevant areas of our life with the intent of seeing "how is social media and this digital world of ipads, iphones and ipods affecting our relationship with God, our marriages, our parenting, our homemaking, our friendships and our health?"

Media affects us each of these areas and it was a somewhat surprise how much I enjoy and use technology.  It also brought awareness of how time consuming this pleasure can be!  Relationships can be strengthened, knowledge can be gained, friendships formed and bonds made and encouragement can be given and received.  But reading, chatting, texting while being convenient should never take the place of face to face relationships or hinder our duties and tasks of being a wife, mother and keeper of the home.

A recent Sunday School lesson brought out some points about personal pleasure which are very applicable to this subject.

1.  Any pleasure that refreshes you without diminishing you, distracting you, or sidetracking you from the ultimate goal is a legitimate pleasure.  (Using media time wisely)

2.  Any pleasure that jeopardizes the sacred right of another is an illicit pleasure.  (Use caution of competition, open doors of jealousy or comparing of self)

3.  Any pleasure, however good, if not kept in balance, will distort reality or destroy appetite.  (left unchecked, media or technology can chain us, consume us and use way too much time and attention)

So for me this pleasure, enriches me, provides opportunity to be a giver and strengthens relationships, it is critical to have balance always remembering to keep the Lord and the things of Him first and foremost.

    I love these statements...I feel many women have determined the use of social media is 'evil' and have shunned its use from fear. We should guard against extremes with anything, including the use of media. Thanks so much for sharing these points.

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! WFW – Write It On My Heart

This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel       after that time, declares the Lord.    I will put My laws in their minds       and write them on their hearts.    I will be their God,       and they will be My people.  Hebrews 8:10 On a recent field trip to a museum featuring the days gone by, we sat in an old schoolroom as the teacher introduced us to the quill pen and bottle of ink.  She cautioned us to use extreme caution using the ink and told us that if it got on our skin or clothes, it would not come off. Construction, Challenges, Chaos

 Who knew something simple could erupt into something chaotic so quickly? A broken file cabinet forced us to purchase a new one. We found one online, ordered it and it arrived quickly with a do it yourself assembly book, complete with 24 part packages and 18 steps of instructions!  As we unpacked the items and compared with the instruction book, we realized a part was missing. Customer service was called, a replacement part was quickly received. Except, the screws did not fit into the holes on the replacement part. We tried again, received another part, same issue.  Meanwhile, the 24 packages of parts are spread out on my living room floor, customer service does not understand my issue, they asked for photos which were sent and now we are again, waiting for a part.  It seems every project faces the inevitable delay.
