Living and Active Challenge - Dedicated Daily

The focus for this week's Living and Active Challenge is "Dedicated Daily".  In our spiritual and physical walk, daily dedication is the key to growth, improvement and change.

If you have ever gone on a 'diet', you know that you will eventually go off of the diet and the old eating habits and lack of exercise will undo all that had been done!  If not practiced daily, we go  back to what is normal.  Healthy habits must become the 'new normal'  ingrained, practiced and made a part of our daily life. Finding some favorite healthy alternatives to foods that are not good for us will take us to the path of better eating habits.  Replacing the bad with the good, done over and over is what makes changes.  But in the beginning, we must be dedicated.  Dedicated Daily to make the best choices in our food, to do some sort of exercise and choose to be healthy.

This is the verse for our 'soul food' this week - "Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of it's own."  This is a verse I have hid in my heart because I am a worrier...if left unchecked 'what if's go through my mind and cause anxiety, worry and fear.  It brings peace to realize that God is bigger than any issue or thing that I find to worry about.  He is in control, nothing happens without His knowledge, nothing takes Him by surprise.  And....He is right there, walking beside me in whatever situation I face.  There is no need to borrow trouble!

My first week of this challenge went great!  I ran every other day, did a full body workout video at home and attended an exercise class.  Saturday I got up and out early to try out a running group.  With some great encouragement from the coach and other runners, I ran 2 1/2 miles and walked 1/2 mile.  My goal is to run/walk a 5K in a few weeks and the running coach pushed me to keep moving and said I would be ready!  My eating was 'ok' and that is an area I"m looking to improve on this week.  It's called 'eating clean', leaving off the junk food with more focus on protein, whole grains, lean meats and vegetables.  I'm looking forward to a great new week!!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We...

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him....
