Healthy Hump Day

Guess what day it is???  Yep, it's Hump Day.  There have been a few new healthy habits I've picked up and wanted to share...so today is..."Healthy Hump Day'!

A new supplement in our home is magnesium.  After hearing about it's benefits of helping relive foot cramps and stress, I did some research on it.

"Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis."
National Institute of Health

"Magnesium is a mineral that's crucial to the body's function. Magnesium helps keep blood pressure normal, bones strong, and the heart rhythm steady.  Experts say that many people in the U.S. aren't eating enough foods with magnesium. Adults who consume less than the recommended amount of magnesium are more likely to have elevated inflammation markers. Inflammation, in turn, has been associated with major health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. Also, low magnesium appears to be a risk factor for osteoporosis. "

Natural food sources of magnesium include:
  • Green, leafy vegetables, like spinach
  • Nuts
  • Beans, peas, and soybeans
  • Whole-grain cereals

After adding magnesium citrate capsules to our daily health regimen, I heard about even more benefits of magnesium and calcium.

While magnesium enhances the absorption of calcium, it also works hand in hand with calcium, one to contract muscles and the other to relax them, as well as relaxing and calming nerves. Together, they create an intricately linked relationship to support the nervous system. Calcium is an essential mineral, used throughout the body to protect and heal. Magnesium is necessary to maintain a healthy system and helps to regulate daily bodily functions. The two of these are required for lasting overall well-being and they work together to help the body in a number of ways to keep illness and disease at bay.

"For a sense of calm, better sleep and less pain in your body consider trying “nature’s alkaline relaxers” – calcium and magnesium. These are often prescribed  for helping a person relax and sleep naturally or for “tired and wired” women who need a better sleep."  Dr. Helen Smith

More on Calcium & Magnesium:

Calcium and magnesium is a powder drink that you absorb right into your blood stream. This lemony drink replaces the vital nutrients your body burns up when you experience stress.

This is the brand we found and love.  The recommended dose is mixed in a glass of orange juice and taken before bed.  We are loving the results!!  Do your own research and see if this powerful combination will enhance your health!
