This week, Monday arrived after a fantastic weekend! Our youngest son was at a church camp over the weekend, our older son at work which left lots of relaxed, uninterrupted time for sweet hubby and I. We spent the weekend taking care of some household chores, then spent an afternoon doing some shopping and then dinner out. Sunday morning was quiet and peaceful, we enjoyed some adult company for lunch, a leisurely nap and completed a quiet evening with watching the movie Beautiful Dreamer—a pure chick flick (thanks hubby!!).
Monday morning arrived and as I had only myself to get ready, was enjoying the quiet of the morning. Deciding to take the trash out, first spilled coffee grounds all over, then when opening a new box of trash bags, cut myself on the box—really??? Who cuts themselves on cardboard??!!! Plans changed to clean up mode to get the coffee grounds up as I realized I was bleeding all over what I was attempting to clean up! Finally got it all together then moved on to get ready for work. Life is full of little hiccups, but the key is to just keep moving.
The morning’s little distraction was minor, but on this same date 25 years ago, my family came face to face with tragedy and loss. A simple knock on the door changed our lives forever. My father had been tragically killed. In an instant, he was gone and our family would be forever different. The timing was of this brought us to a difficult decision—my wedding would be in 8 days, should we hold off on all the wedding plans or keep moving on? We decided that Dad would want us to move on. The wedding resumed and brought us to a place of newness and a purpose to move forward. We just had to ‘just keep moving” and trust in God’s grace to see us though...and it did.
Not all distractions are life changing, but life is full of all kinds of distractions. As women who are mainly responsible for keeping our homes, we see these things everyday. Tasks need to be done, but our attention gets diverted elsewhere, chores pile up and we run out of time and energy. We want to make our homes a place of sanctuary, peace and atmosphere, but life sometimes just gets in the way. Just keep moving! Find a moment to get a quick chore done, wipe up the spills, do another load of laundry, take a moment to cherish those children, talk to them over a snack, watch their favorite show with them, cuddle with the husband for a moment….keep moving forward and let those life moments be cherished. When we keep moving forward, God’s grace sweeps us up and carries us. As we seek for Him to fill our hearts, He overflows! He gives us the grace we need to show our love to the family, the strength to do what is needed, the power to live a full, abundant life. It’s often when we sit back and analyze, complain and despair that things get stopped up….let the flow of grace come through….just keep moving!!
Hi Joy! I think you and I might be living similar lives. Just keep moving... I needed this today, especially when it comes to my relationship with the Lord. I want to keep going deeper with Him. When I stop doing so, I can become stagnant. I have much on my plate the next few days, so I appreciate this reminder to keep moving physically too! Thank you for commenting on my post which sent me to yours! You have a beautiful blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for the tragedy you experienced with your father being killed right before your wedding but what a testimony you have of overcoming. Thank you for sharing that part of your story and the wisdom to keep moving forward. If we move forward with God, His grace covers us. Thank you for sharing with Three Word Wednesday. I'm delighted you are joining us. Blessings.
