Have you ever heard those phrases that may sounce cute, but bring with them some deep contemplation? Those questions that make us immediately want to choose the best choice, but reflect that this may be an area we can use some growth in.
Most of these begin with the words "there are two types of people in the world"... and they cause us to identify which one we are. Look at these:
- There are those who give and there are those who take.
- One who enters a room and says 'here I am' and one who enters and say 'there you are'.
- Those who do the work and those who take the credit.
- People who accomplish things, and people who claim to have accomplished things. The first group is less crowded
- Ones that suck the life out of every day, and the ones that let every day suck the life out of them.
- Those who put themselves first and those who put others first.
- My favorite...those who add value to others or those who allow others to add value to them.
"Leader or Influencer" sound like such big roles to fill. But often it is the day to day attitudes that build up into quality character. Small choices made daily make up our words and shape us into who we are. Make no mistake, each of us are influencers and leaders simply because we influence and set an example before someone. When we want to do this well we understand, we don’t have to be on stage to lead well. Whether you consider yourself a leader, have the desire to lead, or aren’t really sure how leadership fits into your day, here are three ways you can be obedient to God’s purpose in your life.
1. Ask the Lord to lead you first. If you are going to be a leader who has spiritual impact, submit yourself to the authority of the Lord each day. Search for guidance, direction, and discernment as you spend time in His Word. Psalm 119:130 says, “The revelation of your words brings light and gives understanding to the inexperienced.”
2. Accept the place where you are currently leading. It’s easy to dream of future leadership positions yet miss the place where God is currently working in your life. Embrace the place where God has put you. Work hard at the assignment you’ve been given, and trust Him with your future.Remember there is a greater need to lead ten than to lead thousands.
3. Act on the opportunities you are given. We must move forward on the path God has provided, taking one step at a time. The journey isn’t always easy and it takes time. It can be filled with roadblocks and unknowns. Yet, the result is seeing the beauty of where your leadership journey takes you. This verse is so powerful...Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” Trust in the leadership path God has marked for your life, and take it one step at a time.
