Today is the day after Easter. Some of us are basking with the memories of a good day filled with worship and family time. Children may still be filled with excitement (and sugar highs) over treats from the Easter basket.
This Monday might also find us feeling a little let down, the newness of our Easter clothes has faded, the excitement and planning of the holiday now passed and our lives back to the same old grind.
Our family's Easter was wonderful. The week before was filled with planning for activities at church and a large family gathering. Easter Sunday began early and was a day full of blessings that included worship, family time together and a wonderful lunch. This family picture was the only one captured to savor the memory of the day. With a family of three sons, picture taking is not on their agenda, especially while still in church clothes and lunch waiting on them!
For the Christian, the death, burial and Resurrection are the foundation of our faith. These encompass our sin, forgiveness and newness of the Christian life. So in reality, Easter is never past for a Christian.
As spring now abounds, we can keep reminders of the truth of Easter alive in our hearts be focusing on some lessons gained from the biblical account of Easter.
• "Do not be afraid," - God, I hand over to You those things that make me so afraid. Resurrect the parts of my faith squelched by fear.
• "I know that you are looking for Jesus," - God, when my soul is searching, help me know the answer to every longing can be found in You.
• "He has risen," - God, the fact that Jesus is risen should lift my head, my heart and my attitude. Help me to live today as if I really believe this with every part of my life.
• "just as he said," - Jesus, You keep Your promises. Help me live as though I believe that with every part of me. Help me trust You more, obey You more and resemble You more.
• "Come and see," - Jesus, You had the angels invite the women in to see for themselves that You had risen. You invite me into these personal revelations every day. Forgive me for sometimes rushing about and forgetting to come and see for myself ... You, Your Word, Your insights.
• "Then go quickly and tell his disciples," - Jesus, I don't want to be a secret keeper with my faith. I want to be a bold and gracious truth proclaimer. For You. With You. Because of You. Me, the unwanted girl whom You loved, redeemed and wanted.
Jesus is alive and as we walk close with Him, the truths found in His Word will keep our faith fresh and flourishing.
