A Radiant Mother

You know that a woman never runs out of make up!  Recently my foundation was running low.  Although an order was put in for more, it had not arrived yet and I was scraping the bottom and the sides to get what I could to use.

My life was feeling like that.  Routine, daily tasks, running on auto pilot. Work, church, home, so much to do but the same things done over and over. I was running on empty, just scraping the sides to get what was needed.

This weekend will be Mother's Day. Having lost my mother several years ago, it seems like a hump has to be crossed this time of the year. A time to acknowledge the pain of loss that is always there before turning the corner to thankfulness for her life and engaging in what she taught me.

A recent devotion talked about a joyful mother. This was not me this week! The passage was from Psalms 34 and one I dearly love.  "They looked to Him and were radiant."  A joyful mother brightens the home, for she reflects the radiance of the Lord. Joyful moms brighten the life of others and bring warmth and beauty to those she is around.

Reading this beautiful psalm brought a spark of life to my heart:

I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
 My soul shall make its boast in the Lord;
The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
Psalms 34

It is so powerful to be reminded to bless the Lord at all times, praising Him continually - meaning in good times, bad times and those blah times. We can boast in Him, He is secure, loving and has great plans for us. Magnify the Lord....turn our eyes to Him, focus on Him first, our moods, problems, circumstances are never bigger than God. He is greater, stronger and able to do anything.

So, I'm following the psalmist direction and asking you to magnify the Lord with me, let us exalt His name together.  As Mother's Day comes around we are all in different seasons of life. We may have a mother, be a mother, have spiritual children we influence. As Mother's Day has different significance to each one, we can look to God and be radiant in our own sphere. May we reflect His radiance all around us and brighten our corner of the world.

Happy Mother's Day!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him.  Obeying God doesn’t have to be unattainable or impossible, but can be a joyful, beautiful journey as we go by step and follow Him.
