Five Minute Friday

It has been a long time since I've participated in a blog link up.  Much time has also elapsed since a blog post was written from a writing prompt. I feel a bit rusty, but prompts are a wonderful tool to inspire and give renewed life to writing!

Five Minute Friday is a writing prompt link-up, where we free write for five minutes flat on a single word writing prompt. Today's word is YOUR.

YOUR is one of my favorite words!  It immediately brings to mind ME, because our natural tendencies usually involve thoughts of self first. We wonder "how will this affect me, how will this revolve around my plans, place, people. Comparison may be made by using the standard of ME - perception is based on my experiences, my likes or dislikes. If left unchecked, the idea that the whole world revolves around me can affect every area of our life.

But YOUR - requires a mind and heart shift. From me to you. Placing my thoughts and focus aside, looking at you and considering what your feelings, ideas, perspective and actions may be. This gives value to another person. It opens up a deeper opportunity to know someone greater and to step in to their situation and walk a bit beside them in the journey of life.

During this transfer of focus from Me to You - there may be some differences in our thoughts, opinions or preferences. Embracing the concept of YOUR doesn't automatically align myself to become someone else. It does bring a new consideration and depth to communication and understanding another. It opens doors to the heart.  As I step in the realm of YOUR - sometimes we may have to agree that after exploring thoughts and opinions, we disagree or cannot come to a middle ground. Let's chalk it up that we agree to disagree gracefully and are both enriched by the experience of stepping into the concept of YOUR.

  1. Wow! What a great reflection on YOUR, shifting the focus from "me" to "you." It's almost a foreign concept today. Thank you for the challenge and the motivation to take an outward look and consider others ahead of myself.

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We...

Word Filled Wednesday – Act Justly

He has shown you, O man, what is good;       And what does the LORD require of you                But to do justly, To love mercy,       And to walk humbly with your God?    Micah 6:8 Sometimes we struggle so hard with the question “What does God want us to do and be?”  This verse is a simple yet powerful reminder of some simple things that God requires of us.  Act and do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.  There are numerous opportunities each day to do justly, to do the right thing or to make the right choice.  We love mercy when we show kindness or mercy oftentimes to those who do not deserve it.  Walking humbly before God is acknowledging He alone is God.  He is the I AM – no one else is.  When we give Him the glory He is worthy of, it will humble our heart before Him....
