"Overflow might look messy when gas is spewing out of a tank, but when God fills us to overflowing, it's beautiful, because we're no longer rationing our energy for ourselves and everyone who needs us. We have plenty to give when we are overflowing."
This was from my devotion as I began a new week and the topic was refilling, trust and being still. God wants us to be beyond full, not hovering right above empty, but refilling our souls is a process that requires us to be still and trust.
What was significant about this new week is that I was on forced rest. A scratchy throat, slight cough and then a positive test result had me settled safely at home for the next few days. My first response was "I don't have time for this", but maturity has taught me, when you can't fight against something, lean in, listen and learn what God is trying to say.
So the week began, at home with a stretched out devotion time and words that filled my heart with a desire for Him to fill my cup to overflowing.
This verse comes from the familiar passage of Psalms 23. In there, David is using this expression to help us understand the abounding and overflowing nature of God’s presence, provision, protection and power. God’s blessing upon David wasn’t just for his life but it was designed to spill over so it could bless others. It is the same with you.
God’s channel of blessing is not so that you can hoard it and keep it to yourself. He provides, and the overflow of his provision is designed to be poured out to others. It also is a reminder that God’s supply will never run dry. God has more than enough to help you regardless of your situation. His presence has no boundaries. His provision has no expiration. His protection can’t be penetrated. His power has no equal.
We are blessed to be a blessing, to have hearts full of God's goodness that everyone we come in contact with recognizes His attributes - love, peace, joy. May we take time daily, to be filled with God's Word, pray, believing He has a good plan and purpose for our lives and listen to how we can be a blessing to others. When that sounds overwhelming....stop and let Him refill you!
