Today's topic for Marriage Monday is "Our Honeymoon: Enough Memories to Last a Lifetime” where honeymoon memories are shared!
After 20 years of marriage, our honeymoon is a cherished memory deep down in my heart hidden under some newlywed years, babies and the realities of life. In fact, I had to dig into the photo album to clearly remember all the details of where we went!
My wedding/honeymoon was different and a bit bittersweet in the fact that my father passed away suddenly eight days before our wedding. Realizing that my father would want me to continue on in my new life, we went forward with our plans. Between the stress of planning a wedding, the grief from losing my father, the worry about my family, the time going away for rest and renewal was a needed blessing. It was more than a "honeymoon of pleasure", but was a beautiful transition into my new path life.

Our first stop was to spend the night in Jacksonville, Florida. The next day we visited the Jacksonville Zoo. I loved the flamingos there:

Then it was on to Jekyll Island, Georgia for a few days on the beach:
Then we drove leisurely home stopping at Marineland on the way home to watch the dolphins:
It was so much fun pulling out these photos and reminiscing about those early years. It also never fails to bring thoughts of thankfulness to the Lord, not only for a blessed marriage, but for His mercy and grace that put in my heart a desire to be a good wife and the strength to continue day by day to strive toward the goal of a true help meet. With God's plans and purposes for marriage in our hearts and minds, our lives are built on a solid foundation. Though the storms of life may come and the winds of change and adversity may blow, we can stand steadfast in the knowledge that God is with us always and we can allow His unwavering love to keep the marriage alive and flourishing.
This month we will celebrate 21 years of marriage! We've come a long way and I am eagerly looking forward with the Lord's blessings, many more years.
