Making Your Home Sing - Springing Along

Making your home sing Mondays

It is Spring Break this week which usually means a week of no school and days filled enjoying the gorgeous spring weather. It is a time of year I eagerly look forward to.  But this year it seems that there are numerous things competing with the relaxation and rest of Spring Break. Things like sports practices for the boys - soccer, baseball, church softball, weight training - where someone different needs to be somewhere different each day.  Throw in a couple meetings that need attendance, a writing deadline,  a few days of work at my job during the busiest week of the month and then a children's activity that needs to be organized are ready by Saturday.  How did this happen???

Now knowing that if I let myself, I could get frazzled, harried and turn into a whirlwind of activity and emotion, my goal for my home (and myself) this week is to keep a calm and steady pace.  Since as the mom and woman of the home, my attitude and largely determines the pace of the home, I want to enjoy a peaceful week in the midst of the activities.

There may not be any deep, spring cleaning done this week, but some time outdoors is surely called for along with a thankful attitude for the energy, peace and strength that the Lord freely gives!   Happy Spring!

  1. Wow, it sounds like an extremely busy week. Just make sure you take a little time to just relax.

And it's so true how us women set the pace for our homes with just our attitudes.
Like I tell my daughter, I choose to wake up joyful each morning and she can too!

  2. Love that verse...especially in context with this post..."quietness and confidence" are the keys! Hope it is a great week for you - for all of you!

  3. Isn't that the truth that we set the tone of our homes. I am trying to take things as they come. If I try to do too much, I get stressed and out of whack.

Last week, I concentrated on getting the stuff ready for the fish fry at church, our oil change, and getting Easter Bunny items. This week I am doing stuff for Bri's party at school, getting the sticker for my truck, and dessert for the dinner at church for Maundy Thursday. I try to work on one week at a time.

    Have a wonder day.

  4. Thank you for the reminder to have peace in the midst of chaos. Even when we think we are having a slow week, there are still many things needing time and attention. I love your attitude. Thanks for spreading it.

  5. That is how I was feeling a few weeks ago, but I've been able to get things back under control and not feeling so crazy. Sometimes it is all in the attitude you deliberately adopt. Yours seems destined for success.

  6. I love that verse. I am so thankful that we have a Heavenly Father Who is able to keep us calm and at peace even in the midst of chaos, as long as we keep our eyes on Him.

I really dislike it when my weeks get overloaded, especially during spring break (since I homeschool it's my week off too!).

Sometimes you can't help it, of course. Have a great week and thanks for linking up!

  7. I had to come back and read your advice again today. Maybe you could say it a little louder this time, I didn't quite catch it yesterday! :) Total chaos with house under repair, company, moving to a hotel for week, baseball, softball......so you said CALM and steady pace. I'm gunna try again, and if it doesn't work, I'll be back tomorrow!

Sometimes We Score, Sometimes We Block

Our family is in the midst of little league soccer season. My youngest son is playing and his enthusiasm is contagious. He is pretty good at the sport, but what makes it so great is that he loves it! He counts the days until the next game or practice. He loves his coach and teammates. He has moved up an age level this year and the players are working more like team, passing to each other and watching out for each other during play. During the last game, my son scored two goals, they were the only goals of the game. In today's game the team scored eight goals. My son came up afterwards to me and said, "I didn't score today, but I blocked". What a powerful truth those words can hold. In life, sometimes we score, sometimes we block. Sometimes we do great things, we excel, we achieve, we meet our goal - we score! There are also times we see the needs of others, sometimes they are sad or hurting, we block their hits. We look out for them so they can score. We

Relationships and Redemption

In every friendship or relationship, there is a common hope that they will grow and flourish. There is something inside of us that longs for a 'happy every after' story. We dream about it and work to make that happen. But in reality, relationships are a challenge. The bridging of values, lifestyles, interests and sacrificing for another are simply hard things to do! No matter how much we dream of the perfect fit, some relationships will not endure the stress.  When differences appear and tensions arise, prayer can change situations, attitudes and ourselves. For the Christian, we know God can transform, change, heal. We cannot change others, but prayer opens us the door for God to step in and answer. God desires transformation, but does not demand it. The gift of free will allows us to choose to say Yes or No to Him.  Romans 12:18 says, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” Take notice of the first two words: “If possible …” This implies that some

A Blank Page - A Great Way to Fill It

A blank page - that is the first view of a new blog post. It has been a while since I have faced the blank page of my little blog! A blank page can bring a variety of emotions - emptiness, anxiety, pressure to perform or emotions such as inspiration, encouragement or simply bursting to share something. But there is always something fresh and exciting about the blank page of a New Year. Happy 2023! This is always a time in my life where inspiration and plans are formed and ready to be implemented for greater change. Aspirations may start strong, but alone do not make a difference. It takes consistency to create change. The changing or adding small habits is a key to great changes. A habit that has been beneficial in my life for many years is rising early. It began when the children were small and was the only pocket of time I had to myself. Through the years, mornings have become my favorite time of the day. Now that my husband and I are empty nesters, we go to bed early and rise early.
